Apsara dance is one of the ancient court dances in Cambodia. Women dressed in gorgeous costumes dance. The origin of “Apsara” is the celestial maiden in the ancient Indian myth called “Apsaras”.

The wall reliefs of Angkor Wat also depict dancers performing the Apsara dance.
The history of traditional Cambodian dance is said to date back to the Angkor period. At that time, the temple was a place where kings conducted politics while communicating with God. It is said that the dancers were the medium that connected the heavens and the lower worlds.
It is said that successive kings had their own dance troupes, and the dancers performed beautiful dances at important royal events and rain-begging ceremonies.
