The Orangutan House is a popular landmark of Malacca that is introduced in various travel guidebooks.
Guidebooks refer to it as a T-shirt souvenir, but it is not just a clothing store.
It is the atelier and gallery of Charles Cham, one of Malaysia’s leading international painters.
Of course, they also actively sell T-shirts, so please buy them as souvenirs.

Charles Cham’s work is based on the philosophy of “yin and yang” (yin-yang).
Charles believes that everything, visible and invisible, has another side. The Yin and Yang paintings are paintings in which Charles embodies the Yin and Yang philosophy. In fact, two contrasting things are painted on one canvas. They are characterized by the fact that they are facing in opposite directions while attracting each other.
Charles says, “I believe that drawing is thinking and examining, and painting is feeling. I paint what I think and paint what I feel. There is no feeling without thinking, and no painting without drawing.”
Drawing is the basis of all art and the mother of all art. I believe that drawing is a concept and coloring is an expression of emotion. As an artist, I feel joy when my work is evaluated as a “colored drawing” rather than an “excellent painting.”
